Swift Sport sport review

In 2005, Swift was launched in the UK with a 1.3 litre 4-cylinder diesel engine outsourced from Fiat. The award-winning Fiat Multijet engines (known as the JTD and produced in Poland) found its way from Fiat to Suzuki because of their partnership building the Suzuki SX4. The engine is being marketed as the International Engine of the Year by Maruti-Suzuki and is based on common rail multi-jet technology from Fiat. The engine generates 75 bhp (55 kW).

In October 2005, Suzuki launched the 'Sport' version of the new Swift in Japan and in September 2006 the model was introduced in most European markets. Named "Swift Sport", it is powered by a high-revving 1.6 litre, naturally-aspirated DOHC VVT 4-cylinder engine with a 11.1:1 compression ratio, 4-2-1 exhaust manifold, High lift cams, Forged pistons, and strengthened valve springs.

The 1.6 liter engine produces 125 bhp (91 kW) at 6800 rpm and 148 N·m (109 lb·ft) torque at 4800 rpm.

The Swift Sport features sportier bumpers and spoilers, a stiffer suspension, twin exhaust pipes, red sport seats (with Recaro seats optional) and 4-wheel disc brakes on 16 in (40 cm) rims. The Swift Sport Mega features a manual only, come with ESP too HID light and Recaro Seats.

Swift Dzire

Suzuki introduced a sedan based version of the Swift called the Maruti Swift Dzire in the Indian market. The sedan has the exact same wheelbase as the hatchback version and has an increased overall length due to the addition of the boot.

2010 Suzuki Swift

Currently in its fifth generation the Swift is one of the most highly regarded cars in its segment. Front-wheel-drive is standard but some Japanese models are available with optional 4WD. It has petrol engines that range from a 1.2-litre up to a 1.6-litre in line with Suzuki's general small-car bias. The new car should keep the same train of thought and may also add a diesel. Rumours point to a hybrid version being offered in the lineup in markets like Japan.

The US will see the return of the Swift some time in 2010 after the company confirmed it was interested in selling the hatch in America. "The Swift is known as a pocket rocket internationally," Gene Brown, marketing director of American Suzuki Motor Corp was quoted as saying, "and that is the type of product we want here."

If it happens, that rumoured hybrid would most probably cross the Pacific and have the CVT option currently sold with the 1.2-litre.

The latest spy pictures of the next-generation Suzuki Swift have been taken in Germany. The five-door hatchback was caught testing in heavy rain. Although camouflage is still a major factor, we can for the first time, see the shape of the rear lights. Previous spy shots showed a Kizashi-inspired front grille, which is a good thing. The whole car also appears to be rounder than before.

The Swift is sold in a number of countries where it is powered by a range of engines, including a 1.6-litre producing 92kW (125hp) and torque of 148Nm. Drive is generally through a five-speed manual transmission and the front wheels, but Japan sells an AWD model too. Rumours of a full production hybrid had been doing the rounds and were heightened after Suzuki unveiled the Swift Plug-in Hybrid Concept at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.

The mini car is expected to hit world markets during 2010 and become available for US customers in the same year.

Suzuki has unveiled the Swift Plug-in Hybrid Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Effectively a series hybrid, the Swift features a 55 kW electric motor, a battery, and a small engine. Power comes from a 2.66kWh lithium-ion battery, which enables the car to travel up to 20 km (12.4 miles) on electricity alone. When the battery becomes low, a 0.66-liter engine (with an output of 40kW) recharges it. Like all plug-in hybrids, the Swift can also be recharged via a standard household outlet.

Suzuki Splash : Review

Out of their impressions and findings, they finally distilled three models, which, in so called 'car clinics', were then presented to audiences of owners of compact cars and small MPVs. In the end, these audiences favoured the model offering the optimum combination of dynamic sportiness with youthful styling, implying a positive attitude to life and maximum suitability for everyday and recreational use.

At the Paris Motor Show in late September 2006, Suzuki presented 'Project Splash', a concept car showcasing a taste of the styling of the future production-version Splash. The extremely positive response of the audience confirmed to Akira Kamio and his team that they had taken the right path for Splash.
One thing is certain: Splash will be a major player in the mini-MPV segment. While ideally suited to tight parking conditions, the 3.72 m-long car nevertheless offers sufficient space for up to five occupants plus plenty of sports and leisure equipment.

Apart from attractive styling, a cute minicar also requires the best engineering. This includes safe and precise handling, outstanding ride comfort, a high degree of environmental compatibility, and optimum passive and active safety. Hence Splash uses a 30 mm shorter wheelbase version of the Swift's platform, Suzuki's current best seller.

The chassis, steering and brakes were adapted to the new parameters in extensive tests, which included tens of thousands of miles of testing over various types of European roads, from English cobblestones, through twisty southern Spanish tracks to fast German autobahns.

Choice of three engines
Splash will make its debut at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September, with sales commencing in Spring, 2008. Customers will have the choice of three engines – two petrol and a diesel. The petrol units are 100% Suzuki designs, a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder unit producing 65 PS (48 kW) and a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine developing 86 PS (63 kW). Both are of advanced four-valve-per-cylinder design, offering a sophisticated combination of smoothness, low-end torque and fuel efficiency.

Diesel fans can choose the 1.3-litre common-rail direct injection engine available with a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). Producing 75 PS (55 kW), this 4-cylinder unit is manufactured by Suzuki at its new diesel engine plant in India under licence from Fiat Group Automobiles.

All three engines are combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 86 PS petrol version can also be ordered with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Given the stricter standards now being demanded with respect to environmental compatibility, all engines are Euro4-compliant, with CO2 emissions between 120 and 140 g/km in combination with manual transmissions.

Safety
Suzuki has paid great attention to safety measures in the design of Splash. Active safety features include ABS, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution and ESP®. Passive safety features include six airbags (dual front side and curtain airbags), a crash-optimised, rigid passenger cell, plus seatbelt-force limiters and seatbelt pretensioners for the front seats. For enhanced pedestrian protection the front end of Splash is fitted with energy-absorbing structures.

2006 Suzuki Splash concept

We couldn't figure out why John was sending us pictures of a toy car from the Paris Motor Show until he filled us in that this is actually the very cute, very small Suzuki Splash concept. The little jellybean in Lagoon Blue is what Suzuki dubs a "clinic model," or the first step towards a new production vehicle.

The marketing guys at Suzuki say that it's a car for everything and anybody for every kind of trip, but we've heard that one before -- we peg this more as a driving machine for the young and cash-strapped, as well as senior citizens looking for something small and fun.

The exterior, Suzuki says, is inspired by the youthful quality one might find in a splash of water. LED lights abound, and the lines are fun and cartoonish. Check out the floating-look chrome A-pillar and the wraparound tail lights. The side mirrors incorporate cameras that feed into the center console display on the inside.

The interior is no small shakes either. The car is tall and the roof is glass, making it seem huge considering its small size. The floating look is evident in the instrument panel as well, where the gauges sit, bubble-like. Blue leather trim finishes off the look.

Fun to drive and fun to use: a car for everybody

An exciting Suzuki project to follow the new Swift, Grand Vitara, and SX4 is now under way. Named "Project Splash" to signify a new sensation, it's making its debut in "clinic model" form-the first tangible step toward a production model-at the 2006 Paris Mondial de l'Automobile.

A relatively tall body affords ample occupant comfort within manageable exterior dimensions. It incorporates a panoramic glass roof that creates an airy feeling in the cabin.

The cabin has a contemporary design that's based on gentle curves. Its equipment includes an innovative multi-display that aids the driver regardless of whether he or she is a relative novice or someone who relishes a more involving driving experience.

Exterior

The exterior design of Project Splash embodies the energy, youthfulness, and delight suggested by a splash of water. Sharp lines, bold contours, and chrome accents give the body a sporty, emotionally appealing look.

Seen from the front, Project Splash has a strong-looking 'face' incorporating long, slim, slanting light-emitting-diode (LED) headlights and a large grille. The panoramic glass roof, which realizes a roomy, open-looking cabin area, is also visible.

The side view is distinguished by floating-look chrome A-pillar covers and by chrome side mouldings that complement emotionally appealing body contours. The side mirrors each incorporate a turn-signal lamp and a rear-view camera. And a stable, sporty stance is realized by positioning of the wheels and flared fenders in the extreme corners of the body.

A dynamic, rounded rear-end design incorporates LED rear combination lamps and integrated dual exhaust tailpipes.

Interior

The interior design reflects a focus on enjoyment and ease of use.

At the front of the cabin, the driver's area offers practical, visual, and tactile benefits: A single, high-legibility meter in a blue-coloured, floating-look instrument panel incorporates a speedometer and an information display showing the shift position, a fuel gauge, a clock, an odometer, a tripmeter, the average fuel consumption, and the driving range on remaining fuel. A large, central multi-display gives navigation, side-rear-view, audio, and climate-control indications. The gearshift control has an intuitively usable ball-shaped, instrument-panel-mounted design. And a leather-wrapped steering wheel incorporates controls for audio and display functions.

The entire cabin is distinguished by a blue-based colour scheme. The driver and passengers enjoy a sense of openness thanks to the panoramic glass roof. And they enjoy comfort on short and long journeys alike thanks to contemporary, refined, leather-upholstered seats that offer superior support.

Safety

To help the driver avoid hazards, Project Splash has a range of active-safety technologies including an anti-lock braking system, an Electronic Stability Program, and large front and rear ventilated disc brakes. And in case of an unavoidable collision, it incorporates a collapsible steering column, foot-protection-design brake and clutch pedals, front-seatbelt pretensioners and force limiters, energy-absorbing trim, and front, front-side, and curtain airbags, all combined with a crashworthy body structure.

Overview

The new model Suzuki Every was developed with the concept of a light mini-van for both the family and for business. A comfortable passenger space and convenient loading efficiency is pursued, making it a versatile vehicle for everyday use.

Exterior

Unlike conventional clumsy mini-vans, the Every is an extremely easy vehicle to drive. The A-pillars have been made narrow to allow for a larger windscreen. 3 panels of glass are on each side of the vehicle, giving the driver increased field of vision. The wheels are positioned at the 4 extreme corners for very nimble and agile handling.

Interior

The interior of the Every was designed with convenience as the number one priority. The front seats can be fully folded up or down for verstaile cabin use. Movement in the front row of seats is unobsructed with the gear stick built onto the dashboard. There is a 2nd row of seats in the cargo area. It is a bare-minimum, bench-type row of seat, but the amazing part is that it can be fully folded down to create a completely flat cabin floor with a maximum loading capacity of 350kg. The side panel glass are actually windows that can be winded down for passenger-car like comfort.

Sporting a name that could roughly mean "high pitched rabbit" is loveably quirky, and so it fits that the name is affixed to a kei car. Suzuki's 660cc microcar, styled in the same idiom that has shaped Nissan's Cube, though the 'Zuki calls to mind the original Mini more than other squared-off micros. The styling is about the only thing that Suzuki hasn't changed on the Alto Lapin, which has been on sale since 2002. There are upgrades to the platform, powertrain, and interior, making the Alto Lapin a virtually new vehicle. The interior rework brings a newfound sense of space, if that can truly be said about anything so tiny, and the stylish design is rendered in classy materials. A new CVT makes the most of the 53 naturally aspirated or 63 turbocharged horsepower while delivering nearly 58 mpg. The car, with its inherent cuteness, is aimed at women buyers (like many other keis, it's offered in pink), and there's a whole line of "Lapin Goods" to go along with the car.
